Investigation Complete

Comprehensive codec and audio format compatibility verification has been completed. All potential encoding/decoding issues identified and resolved.

What Was Investigated

1. Audio Input Pipeline

  • librosa.load() with FFmpeg backend
  • torchaudio.load() for various formats
  • mutagen for MP3 metadata
  • Supported formats: WAV, FLAC, MP3, OGG, AAC, M4A

2. Codec Dependencies

  • FFmpeg availability and codec support
  • audioread for extended format support
  • libsndfile for native WAV support
  • scipy and soundfile for WAV I/O

3. Format Validation

  • Audio file existence and readability
  • Duration validation (>= 10 seconds required)
  • Sample rate detection and handling
  • Channel detection (mono/stereo/multi-channel)
  • Bit depth validation (16-bit, 24-bit, float32)
  • NaN/Inf detection in loaded audio

4. Error Handling

  • Clear error messages for unsupported formats
  • Guidance for installing missing codecs
  • Fallback format recommendations

  • librosa and audioread availability
  • torchaudio backends
  • scipy and soundfile for fallback
  • mutagen for MP3 metadata
  • Format support matrix

Run:

python check_codec_pipeline.py

  • Handles both mutagen (MP3) and librosa (WAV/FLAC/etc)

4. Comprehensive Troubleshooting Guide (CODEC_AND_FORMAT_TROUBLESHOOTING.md)

Covers:

  • Common issues and solutions
  • Installation instructions for each OS

Audio Pipeline Overview

INPUT STAGE (get_style_prompt)
├─ Validate audio file
├─ Check duration >= 10s
├─ Load with librosa (FFmpeg backend)
├─ Validate loaded audio
└─ Extract MuQ-MuLan embedding

REFERENCE STAGE (get_reference_latent - edit mode only)
├─ Load with torchaudio
├─ Validate format
├─ Resample to 44.1 kHz if needed
├─ Convert to stereo if needed
└─ Encode with VAE

GENERATION STAGE (inference)
├─ CFM sampling with progress
└─ VAE decoding

OUTPUT STAGE (save_audio_robust)
├─ Validate audio tensor
├─ Try torchaudio save (< 1s)
├─ Fallback to scipy (< 5s)
├─ Fallback to soundfile (< 5s)
└─ Save as 16-bit WAV

Usage Examples

Check Codec Support

python check_codec_pipeline.py

Generate with WAV Reference (recommended)

python infer/infer.py \
  --lrc-path output/test.lrc \
  --ref-audio-path /path/to/style.wav \
  --audio-length 95 \
  --output-dir output

Generate with MP3 Reference (requires FFmpeg)

python infer/infer.py \
  --lrc-path output/test.lrc \
  --ref-audio-path /path/to/style.mp3 \
  --audio-length 95 \
  --output-dir output

Convert to Supported Format

# Convert MP3 to WAV
ffmpeg -i input.mp3 output.wav

# Convert AAC to WAV
ffmpeg -i input.aac output.wav

# Convert OGG to WAV
ffmpeg -i input.ogg output.wav

# Ensure 16-bit WAV
ffmpeg -i input.mp3 -acodec pcm_s16le -ar 44100 -ac 2 output.wav

Troubleshooting Quick Reference

Issue Solution
"Unsupported file format" Run check_codec_pipeline.py, install FFmpeg
"Audio file too short" Use audio >= 10 seconds or loop shorter audio
"Error reading audio file" Check file exists, verify FFmpeg installed
"librosa cannot decode" Install FFmpeg: sudo apt-get install ffmpeg
"Audio contains NaN" Re-encode file: ffmpeg -i bad.mp3 good.wav
"Permission denied" Fix permissions: chmod 644 audio.mp3

Test Procedures

Test 1: Verify Codec Support

python check_codec_pipeline.py

Expected: Shows installed libraries and codec support matrix

Test 2: Test Format Loading

import librosa
y, sr = librosa.load("test_audio.mp3", sr=None)
print(f"Loaded successfully: shape={y.shape}, sr={sr}")

Expected: Loads without error

Test 3: Full Generation with Audio Reference

# First create test audio in WAV format
ffmpeg -f lavfi -i "sine=f=440:d=15" test_reference.wav

# Run generation with audio reference
python infer/infer.py \
  --lrc-path output/test.lrc \
  --ref-audio-path test_reference.wav \
  --audio-length 95 \
  --output-dir output

Expected: Completes without format errors
