Proposed definition for "ED encounter" #109
Comments
This part of the definition sounds okay to me:
... providing care for undifferentiated and unscheduled patients with
illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention
I'm not sure you want to ED encounters to only take place in an ED. I'm
thinking of case in which the physician travels to locations, or if the
physicians happens to come upon a car wreck (or other emergency). If you
want a specific class for those encounters that do only happen in emergency
departments, I suppose you can make a subclass of ED encounter that
realizes emergency medicine physician role, but only occurs when the
physician is located in an emergency department.
Hope this helps,
Bill

Since this inherits "health care provider role", which is realized by a
health care encounter, I would like to write a superclass restriction that
specifies what type of health care encounter realizes this role. OGMS has
the class "ED encounter" which is a natural candidate, but the definition
is TODO. Would the following (taken from the definition above", be a good
definition?
A health care encounter in which care is provided for undifferentiated and
unscheduled patients with illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical
attention.
One potential downside is that it does not specify that an ED encounter
takes place in an ED.

HI Bill,
That does help thanks. I don't need a class that only occurs when the physician is located in the ED. I just brought it up because the label seems to imply it, and so I wasn't sure about the intended semantics.
Does this definition sound like a good one for ED encounter?
A health care encounter in which care is provided for undifferentiated and
unscheduled patients with illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical
attention.
Thanks

In the proposed definition for "ED encounter", what does "undifferentiated" mean? "I'm not sure you want to ED encounters to only take place in an ED"
|
Although I think it is somewhat humorous that some spam bot (or spammer) found the abbreviation "ED" in our GH Issues, can someone with admin permissions delete the comment? |

On OMRSE we have a request for "emergency medicine physician role" with the following definition:
[superclass: physician role; definition: A physician role that inheres in a human being and that, if realized, is realized by its bearer providing care for undifferentiated and unscheduled patients with illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. ]
mcwdsi/OMRSE#50 (comment)
Since this inherits "health care provider role", which is realized by a health care encounter, I would like to write a superclass restriction that specifies what type of health care encounter realizes this role. OGMS has the class "ED encounter" which is a natural candidate, but the definition is TODO. Would the following (taken from the definition above", be a good definition?
A health care encounter in which care is provided for undifferentiated and unscheduled patients with illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention.
One potential downside is that it does not specify that an ED encounter takes place in an ED.
