No operations are being generated

I'm new to OData and almost everything I read as a .Net developer, advises me to use the OData extension for Visual Studio. But I'm having a problem described in this issue: OData/ODataConnectedService#424

Furthermore I'm being told to use the OData validator tool but that's broken so I can't even do that:

I'm totally confused yet was under the impression generating code from the OData metadata was a non-issue, an already solved problem, can anyone help?

The grammar of the XML seems very well defined to surely code generation from it should be routine by now.
