@nreinicke I think this is really a question for you, but I willing to do some more directed research as needed. Also, I am having a great time so no hurry to decide this.

Where do we fit in the ecosystem so we can provide the most value?

Relevant projects:

• Valhalla - In short seems like us but more established and massive. What they call routing we call matching.
• Fast Map Matching Map matching but performance focused. Has FMM and ST Match. Lots of c++ with python bindings.
• Leuven In depth map matching but Hidden Markov only.

Places for us that I see

1. Valhalla but lighter and offer some interoperability between different map formats.

Features in the immediate future for 1. (Up for debate)

1. Another matching algorithm (Hidden Markov or FMM or STM or ?). I am not sure what would be most useful. Hidden markov looks pretty huge since it requires a lot of tuning factors.
2. If Valhalla is stable, then a thin wrapper around some parts of it (?)
3. ?
