Simple Push Button #400

Sadly, the HomeKit protocol doesn't have anything for this type of button. The only "button" service is from a hardware device to homekit, not the other way. With that out of the way, we are all about breaking and tricking the protocol! So let's see if I can find some of the previous ideas people have had - you can review and ask questions accordingly! First up #362 - discussion and a copyable flow about a "fake" momentary switch and the function of a garage door. And next a suggestion I've shared previously but I can't remember right now: you could make a "switch" (like for your lock) item that when you turn it on it'll stay on for maybe 10 seconds then turn back off. I assume your lock is an actuator basically buzzing someone in? So the switch would show "on" for the 10 seconds while people are allowed to open the door then go back off. |

Hi there. I have the same issue. I thought of using the doorbell service but that seem to not work in homekit #407 (unsupported accessory). I ended up using a switch with a second switch to monitor the state (for a gate). I could not use the garage door service either as this interfered with the garage door persé. I'm obviously not understanding that one correctly but I'll try it again sometime. pitty about the push button function though. I'll check out 362 and 357 for tips. One problem I ran into hence the multiple switch use is that when the update for the switch arrives, it again triggers an on or off on the switch confusing the opening and closing of the gate. is there a way to simply update the switch state without using "on" true/false thus triggering the output of the homekit function? |

Hello,
how should I configure a simple push button.... Not anything that has a state... But simply a push button.
I don't find any accessory that could be used for that. All have some kind of states.
For example, my window shutters do not have a state... I can only push UP or push DOWN...
Also I have a lock, which can be opened at a push of a button. In node-red it should just send a message to my PLC... but it should not require any state.
The switches have state (On/Off). I just need a simple push..button, the node should get triggered from homekit to trigger a simple stateless event.
thanks
