Fujitsu Waterstage home automation/domotica | Matts' Tech Info

Introduction About three years ago our house was fitted with a Fujitsu Waterstage heat pump and boiler for central heating and domestic hot water (DHW). This allowed us to go electric only and close off the gas connection to our house. Right from the start, the company that installed our Fujitsu Waterstage promised it supported connectivity to be included in home automation (or as we call it in Dutch, domotica). However, after asking around and consulting Fujitsu in The Netherlands, we came to the conclusion that it was (I quote) “Not possible” and “Not supported”. I kept an eye open during the years and finally, after I actually opened up the Fujitsu Waterstage internal unit, I got a new lead that proved to be the solution!

Hi Matt, glad to see your manual for the Waterstage heatpump. This makes it a lot easier for me to connect this unit to my
Environment. You mentioned Grafana for dashboarding. I was wondering how you do this. Adjo

Hi Adjo,

I have kept the Grafana part out of this guide on purpose, as it includes a lot of other automation systems. I will do a full guide on is separately, but it's not finished yet.

To still give you an idea, this is the extremely short version:

• Configure MQTT in BSB-LAN to send sensor data to an MQTT server.
• I use Node-Red to read the MQTT messages from BSB-LAN and insert them into an InfluxDB.
• I've created a Grafana dashboard to read the sensor data from the InfluxDB.

Hi Matt, quite an impressive story. I am far from technical, so therefore I reach out to you. I would like to connect Nest Learning Thermostat to the Waterstage heatpump because of the locking and setting thressholds capabilities (it's for a vactionhome rental). Google states that their thermostat is compatible with a heatpump. https://store.google.com/product/nest_learning_thermostat_3rd_gen_specs?hl=nl

What do you think. Is it gone work?

Hi Matthijs,

I'm not so much as an expert on all possibilities of the Fujitsu Waterstages, if I remember correctly the Fujitsu Waterstages work with On/Off thermostats, which is exactly what the Nest thermostat uses too. So just based on that it should be compatible, I remember my installer told me to go with on/off in the future if I ever wanted to change things. But please ask the installer of your heatpump to be sure! I think it should be in the manual of the Waterstage somewhere too but can't find it right now.

I am wondering if this is a good idea. The basic thermostat on de Waterstages is connected through the bussystem (BBS). See chapter 10 of this manual for more details. https://1coderookie.github.io/BSB-LPB-LAN_EN/ If you connect a on/of thermostat you will probable shortcut the bus.
