Device model used: Volla Phone 22
- Operating system version and last update: 15.0-20251202-STABLE-mimameid
- Affected app: Security mode
- Is another profile or shelter active? No
- Is VollaOS security mode active? Yes
- Is VPN being used? No
- Are multiple user profiles or shelters set up? No
Problem:
Domain entries from the imported blacklists are not being blocked reliable.
(Example domain for "secure" testing: bugherd[dot]com). Directly set entries (manually adding domains) will reliably be blocked without any problems. While using imported whitelists security mode also works reliable.
Tip: When testing, please wait one minute after activating security mode. In my experience, it takes a while for the firewall to respond and for the connections to be reestablished. If you test too early, the connection attempt will fail and you will mistakenly confirm a positive test result.
Attempted solution: Reconfigured, cleared the cache and deleted all app data for the app "security mode settings".
None of them helped to solve the issue. This problem exists regardless of whether the setting for private DNS is set to “off” or “automatic” or whether generic MAC addresses are used for the Wi-Fi connection or not.
Resetting the network connections does not help either. Neither does rebooting before and/or after reconfiguration.
After a factory reset I was able to make the security mode block the domains successfully once!
But before proceeding to setup the whole device I tested the function for stability. Therefore I deleted the security templates (context menu with three dots; ... Delete All) and re-imported them to check the function after recycling the lists (simulation of feed-updates).
Since then, I have not been able to restore the security mode to handle the block lists and block their entries anymore.
As the problem does not occur after the first initial setup, I assume there is a problem with retrieving or saving the block lists.
It would be helpful to know whether security mode retrieves the lists from the template-config.json file only once, or if regularly, at what interval.
If there is anything I could do to support you, please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks and best regards,
Michael
