I’m curious to try pixcen, but i wanted to try a native version for GNU/Linux - how can we install it? or, for now, we can only compile its source? (and how?)

I'm sorry to inform you that Pixcen is for Windows only. Future plans might include a cross platform GUI interface but this is not a priority right now. Your best bet is to try running it in Wine, this is reported to be working well with recent versions.
