Thanks to Helmut for suggesting using an uploader!

Desired behavior:

  • click a button
  • record audio from user's microphone
  • transcribe via service on Julia-side (eg, OpenAI or local model)
  • insert the transcribed text into the textfield

Below is my hacky example. I've used OpenAI Whisper API, but you can use local models like Whisper.jl (see Whisper transcriber demo).
The trick was to use a hidden uploader that does the heavy lifting for you.

A few notes:

  • I tried passing the audioBlob via simple POST request, but I wasn't able to get to the right "model" once the file was uploaded, so there was no way to write it back into the textfield
  • I tried passing encoded wav as b64 via model parameters, but it somehow wasn't giving me the correct wav file when saved on the Julia side with WAV.jl library
  • If you want to keep the WAV file in the browser and play it, use this neat trick: URL.createObjectURL(audioBlob); to get to the WAV file (play it, see it, etc).

Questions:

  • Is there a more elegant way to achieve the same?
  • Is it possible to access the Stipple model for a given user in an arbitrary route()? (eg, after sending a request)
  • Whenever I use uploader, I get these Vue errors: vue.js:634 [Vue warn]: Property or method "channel_" is not defined on the instance but referenced during render. - should I be concerned?

EDIT: It doesn't work on mobile devices, the JS runs so it must be something in the uploader workflow (it never activates on the Julia side).
