Hardware recommendations

Hello,

I have some questions regarding suitable hardware for running AMR-Wind. I understand that AMR-Wind is primarily intended for HPC computing, but at our research institute we are currently planning to buy a powerful workstation for running simpler cases. Could someone recommend a good workstation GPU in the price range below $5000? Are gaming cards like the RTX 5090 a good choice for AMR-Wind or should we rather go with a typical workstation GPU?

GPU size is usually dictated by the size of the problem you are running and the time you are ready to wait. Another option worth considering is for 5000$ how many cloud GPU hours you can get and whether that would suffice for your needs. Final option is to splt the pot into two and buy a smaller GPU for regular jobs and use the remaining to run on cloud for jobs with high cell count.
