Update Summer 2023

Tracking sheet
High quality pdf of Amelineau vol. 1

Indexing/initial upload to GitDox (currently by @ctschroeder)

  1. Correlate documents on tracking sheet to text in the UTF-8 files in this repo. Note: the UTF-8 files do not have Amélineau's page numbers so you will need to search for the beginning of the Coptic text.
  2. Copy text into GitDox text editor
  3. Add metadata -- be sure to include Emmel in note & source (see shenoute.uncertain.XR461-476 for examples)

Editing/Annotation in GitDox

In the XML editor

  • Check bound groups to be sure they conform to CS standards
  • add editorial page breaks using <ed_page n=""> tags; nb page numbers are not in the text file and you'll need to reference the pdf
  • any notational material in the text file can be put in a tag
In Spreadsheet mode
  • check annotations as you usually would
  • add line break numbers from the edition; change the line break column label to ed_line_n

Coptic page numbers

  • pb@xml:id tags should correspond to our standards (e.g., <pb xml:id="BA123"> with open/close tags or milestone tages). This can be changed in the spreadsheet.
  • Please add a note indicating the Coptic page numbers in Coptic using the note tag. You can put the note around the first word or bound group of the page.

You do not need to add English translations at this point. If we have time we will add later.

Previous work

@lancealanmartin is processing the transcription provided by Stephen Emmel (who also made some edits).

Priorities:

  1. Identifying works that have a simpler structure (one manuscript entry per work) as identified by Emmel in appendix 2.3.1 in Shenoute's Literary Corpus
  2. Lance will check in with @amir-zeldes & @ctschroeder about whether to process these docs in Gitdox or whether to continue tracking and identifying and classifying the more complex works in Amélineau next.

@amir-zeldes @lancealanmartin I cannot for the life of me find the unicode Amelineau files. Do you know where they are?
