It should be easy to switch a ClassicPress site to receive updates from all beta versions, RC versions, and possibly alpha versions too. This is currently supported for nightly builds but not for any other "channels".

Do we still need this or can the issue be closed?

The feature described above currently isn't available other than via a manual FTP installation.
We can maybe do this later (closing now), leave it open, or decide it isn't really needed.
