Description
Speaking in a non-native language is really hard for people. Maybe we are pushing too much by allowing only English talks.
Of course, we need some solution for non-Spanish speaker on the meetup.
I found this nice compromise:
- If you have a slide for each idea of your talk (example https://slides.com/ai/oklch-css)
- If slides are in English
- Even if you are using another language in your talk, English speakers can understand everything just by looking at slides
Of course, we will help new speakers with slide structure and be sure that everything is on the slides (rule 1 above).
We can also add a few extra rules:
- It allows only to new speakers. We will try to force speakers with experience to talk on English. (But still, open for different cases).
-
50% of talks in non-English
- Questions in English
Why it could be good:
- We will have more speakers
- Immigrants to Barcelona will have a good chance to practice Spanish, slides will be like watching talk with subtitles (it what I really want to, for instance)
- Language diversity is very nice
- Anyway, most people get information from visual channel. In talk, we need our voice mostly to spread emotions (if everything is on slides).
