Incus Server Widget

How about a widget to provide the up/down status for instances on an incus server. This is a documented API running on port 8443 by default. It's used by Matthew Penning with his lxconsole GUI for incus (https://github.com/PenningLabs/lxconsole).

If the server has a local ip within your network, you can just set up a shortcut to ping the container no?

Yeah I see what you're getting at. I can make that shortcut url nullable or have an option for a shortcut to be "health check only" for just monitoring health status with no shortcut on click. In the mean time, you can set the URL to any valid url for the time being and get it to track the status and just not click that icon. This is a simple addition and i can have it in the next version.

As for the look and feel of it, for consistency I would still probably make it look just like the other shortcuts but with no click action and the small red/green indicator in the bottom with a custom icon in the center. I will think about alternative styling that could fit the design language of this app but that's where I'm leaning

Agreed, design aesthetics for consistency really do matter. I wonder how crazy you want to get with widgets. Have you thought about crazy stuff like a widget to monitor the RTSP stream of a Home Lab camera. I actually have a camera pointed to my rack that I access from an icon on my desktop to view the RTSP stream with:

You might be able to just use the rtsp url to achieve what you're wanting. Try it out and let me know if it works. It probably will use a web media player from your browser.

RTSP is not an HTML protocol and not supported by web browsers. Typically you would use ffmpeg of ffplay to process an RTSP stream. The other way around that would be a vlc script. Since most users of menus are newbies wanting a turnkey solution, the above are beyond the KISS principle.

Having this in a menu system would be a huge plus since most folks today use something like a Home Assistant dashboard to do that. ffmpeg includes the ffplay package and could be installed in the docker container and the parameters could be passed to it in a frame.

Hmm ok I see, I couldn't just do it from the backend like that since the client and the backend are typically separate devices. So that ffplay command wouldnt be able to be executed on the client's side. You could however probably use some hosting service to control and be a front end for rtsp. I know that exsits out there and have web ui you could acccess. We could mark this an issue/idea but it would take probably a lot of work and would be basically an added rtsp stream within lab-dash. Something like an addon if you will
