The BMS or Battery Management System is used to monitor and balance the different cells in our battery pack. We would like to track the state of our batteries in real time by integrating the BMS with our CAN bus network so that we can retrieve data points such as the current pack voltage, state of charge, current draw, temperature, and others. This will allow us to monitor our system and ensure the safety and reliability of our battery system.
We would additionally like to reduce the throttle driven to the motors if we detect unsafe conditions such as excessive power draw or battery temperatures in order to protect the battery pack. This fault should be indicated visually to the driver on the dashboard as well.
