Can the on-hover calendar display months top down instead of left to right?

Many calendars format months from top down, as the days of the week line up nicely, but the default for the clock module's on-hover calendar is to display the months going from left to right (up to the per-row limit). I don't see a configuration option for this, but I would like to change this behavior, if possible.

Since it's unlikely to be a config option, I'm fine with looking into changing the source and recompiling, if someone can point me in the right direction.

not configurable rn, it’s hardcoded row-first
you’d need to patch the clock module to change the layout
