[Question] How can I make a shorter toolbar?

Attached is an image of what my bar currently looks like. The following is the associated css code:

How might I make the bar less tall? I'm not versed in CSS at all, and the wiki on styling is pretty bare. I just want the bar to be slightly taller than the text itself, but the box variable seems to have a minimum height that can't be changed, as far as I can tell?

Any help would be very much appreciated!

edit: it seems that, when running waybar via the terminal, the height is locked to 57px, irrespective of the style or config settings :/

well it seems like this is the real issue here . . .
