I'm using the DAP API v2.0.0 /reports/site/data endpoint to fetch daily visit totals across all participating .gov domains. When summing domain visit counts for a given day, I notice an (other) key in the domains object alongside named domains like irs.gov, ssa.gov, etc.
During Jan 4–13, 2026, it suddenly spikes to approximately 72M visits/day before returning to negligible levels. This nearly doubles the apparent totals of the data during this period. Named domains show no corresponding increase across the same period; USPS, NIH, IRS, SSA, and other high-traffic domains have essentially unchanged counts.
What's behind this data anomaly? I'm excluding the (other) data from my analysis but I want to understand if that is the right call or if this spike has an explanation that I"m missing.
