1825+ Unsupported Drives setup/expansion/replacement #496

Hi, I read through the 2025 plus model document and I just want to make sure that what I want to do/will do is going to work. So I know the scripts will let me set up with unverified drives and I can remove the warnings, that's pretty clear. From there, can I still use the scripts to expand my storage volume with new 3rd party drives? There's a lot of mention of migrated drives, but not necessarily new ones. Additionally, do the scripts allow you to replace dead drives, with the same kind of 3rd party, as "normal"? Or is this where the drive lock really comes in and you HAVE to use synology drives at that point? I'm likely going to get 20tb WD drives and I just want to be absolutely positive that the scripts can cover my bases and I'm understanding everything correctly. Thank you for the help! |

After running the Synology_HDD_db script you will be able to use 3rd party drives to create new storage pools, expand existing storage pools by adding a drive or replacing drives with larger drives, and replace dead drives. Note: If you add a different model drive or same model drive with a different firmware version you will need to run the Synology_HDD_db script again. You may also need to run Synology_HDD_db again after a DSM update. It's easier to just schedule Synology_HDD_db to run as root at boot up. |
